A 5-Day Halaal-Friendly Cape Town Itinerary
Cape Town completely stole my heart- it’s where my husband and I fell in love with travel. Our very first trip was in 2018, and since then, we’ve returned to the Mother City twice more. There’s just something magical about it- the mountains, the ocean, the food, and the atmosphere.
If you’re visiting for the first time, here’s a 5-day itinerary based on the places we’ve personally visited and loved. We stayed near the V&A Waterfront each time, so this itinerary starts from there.
Where We Stayed (and Recommend)
- Southern Sun Waterfront – 2018
- Southern Sun Cullinan – 2022
- The Capetonian (Halaal) – 2024
5-Day Cape Town Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & The Iconic Table Mountain
Start your trip with one of Cape Town’s most famous attractions- Table Mountain.
Later, spend the afternoon exploring the V&A Waterfront, where there’s always a lively atmosphere.
Things to do:
- Boat or canal ride
- Ride the Cape Wheel
- Take photos at the V&A photo frame
- Shop and stroll through the mall
Dinner options:
- Saray Restaurant
- Steelies, Nando’s, Fisherman’s Choice, or Simply Asia (halaal options in the mall)
Day 2: Penguins, Cape Point & Scenic Drives
Start early- it’s a long but breathtaking day.
- Visit Boulders Beach to see the penguins.
- Explore Cape Point (don’t miss the funicular ride).
- Drive back via the spectacular Chapman’s Peak Drive.
- Stop at Hout Bay for a boat ride or seaside stroll.
Where to eat in Hout Bay:
- Fish on the Rocks
- Snoekies (expect long queues during holidays)
Day 3: History & Marine Life
Morning: Take the Robben Island Tour — it’s a must-visit and lasts about 3.5 hours including the boat ride. (Book online in advance as tickets sell out fast.)
Afternoon: Spend time at the V&A Waterfront again.
Visit the Two Oceans Aquarium — tickets are cheaper after 3 PM.
Day 4: Beach, Culture or Nature
You can choose from a few options depending on your mood:
Option 1: Muizenberg & Shopping
- Relax at Muizenberg Beach (great fish & chips at Lucky’s).
- Browse the Muizenberg Flea Market (Sundays only).
- Stop at Access Park shopping mall on your way there.
Option 2: Camps Bay & Bo-Kaap
- Visit Camps Bay Beach.
- Take a walk along the Sea Point Promenade.
- Stop in Bo-Kaap for colorful photos and the small museum.
Highly recommend dinner at Bo-Kaap Kombuis.
If you prefer a calm day outdoors, pack a picnic and head to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens.
Day 5: A Day at Babylonstoren
Drive about 45 minutes to Babylonstoren, a stunning wine estate with gardens, animals, and cafés. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and worth every minute.
