Hajj Preparation: Insights and Advice from the Halaal_Travels Community

“Your hajj preperation shouldn’t start when you get your accreditation. it should start long before that.

Go buy a book. Start writing down the duas you would like to ask at each point duas are accepted throughout the journey. Make categories such as health, travel, career etc. for yourself. make categories for your children and your parents and your friends.”

“Please train months in advance and make sure you break those takkies in. Carry sandals when walking to Arafat incase your takkies starts hurting you.”

“Practice with eastern toilets beforehand if possible.”

“Prepare yourself for cultural differences amongst muslims and have lots of sabr.”

“Be prepared to come to terms with taking accountability of yourself.”

“Take breaks to gather your strength.”

“I’m currently on hajj, and walk, walk, walk a lot before hajj. You need to be very fit.”

“When you realise you are the Guest of Allah, you value the experience differently. Cherish every moment.”

“Carry a toiletry bag with an S hook so you can hang your stuff, do not put it on the shower floor in Mina.”

“Nothing is coincidence. Allah provides and takes care of everything.”

“Everything happens by the will of Allah, from your invitation to the food you meant to share.”

“Enjoy every moment and save your health and energy for the 5 days, that’s the most important”.

“Females should mentally prepare themselves for Mina’s toilets unfortunately. The sad truth”.

“Savour every moment of Mina. Mina a special experience, niyah to stay all 3 days.”

” Read your labaik (full) at least 3 times after every salaah. Inshallah you will be accepted for hajj.”

“Spend time alone with hubby, go for walks, watch the sunrise. Enjoy time alone”.

“Go as soon as you can.”

“Sometimes the change isn’t immediate and that’s ok too. i did make small changes when we returned from hajj, but my aha moment came like 7 or 8 months later. And  thats when my life really changed. I thought something was wrong with me, coz everyone always comes back totally transformed but Allah has a perfect timeline and plan for us and as long as you keep trying to do your best, Allah will see your efforts and help you to be a better Muslim.”

“As a prospective hajji…

Seek out the hujjaaj who went the year prior to you. You need to know, from a logistics perspective-what works in that climate. What Aziziya is like now. What they ate to maintain good health.

Remember the ibaadah is yours. No one touches that, unless you decide to do something silly like perform an umrah in the blazing heat (that you’re unaccustomed to) before youmal Arafat. The travel agent is only responsible for getting you to places. The spiritual leader is there to help you with the Manasik, in case you’re feeling overwhelmed or angsty.

You would want to be healthy and present during Wuqoof. Play your part in having good mental and emotional health as far as you can. It is an incredibly special time with Allah…Be present”.

As you prepare for Hajj, remember that it is a personal journey with profound spiritual significance. Take proactive steps to ensure physical, mental, and emotional well-being, and embrace the unique experiences and lessons that await you. By seeking guidance, making preparations, and combining prayers with actions, you can embark on a transformative and fulfilling Hajj pilgrimage. May Allah accept your efforts and grant you a blessed journey.
