Travel is one of the most enriching experiences. It connects us with new cultures, opens our hearts to diversity and leaves us with memories that last a lifetime. But we also know that travel can have an impact on the environment and the communities we visit.
Islam already taught us about sustainability over 1400 years ago.
At Halaal Travels, sustainability is not just a trend, it is a responsibility. Islam teaches us to be caretakers (khulafa) of the earth, to avoid waste and to act with justice towards people, animals, and the environment. Guided by these principles, we are committed to embedding sustainable practices into the way we operate and the partners we work with.
The Sustainable Development Goals and Halal Travel
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the United Nations in 2015 are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all by 2030. These 17 interconnected goals tackle global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and environmental degradation, while promoting inclusive economic growth and social wellbeing.
In tourism, the SDGs provide a clear framework for aligning industry practices with sustainability. Two goals are especially relevant:
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Encourages reducing waste, using resources wisely, and supporting businesses that operate responsibly.
Islamic perspective: The Quraan warns against Israf (wastefulness), reminding us that moderation is a divine principle.
Goal 13: Climate Action
Calls for urgent measures to combat climate change and its impacts.
Islamic Perspective: The Quraan commands us not to cause Fasad (corruption) on the earth after it has been set in order.
Our Commitment at Halaal Travels
At Halaal Travels, we believe that travel should benefit people, places, and the planet. Guided by Islamic values of stewardship (khilafah) and avoiding waste (Israf), we are committed to embedding sustainable practices into the way we operate and the partners we work with.
As Halaal Travels grows, so will our commitment to shaping a Haalal Travel’s ecosystem that is not only inclusive and inspiring but also responsible and future-proof Inshallah.
