When is the best time to visit Hermanus for whale watching?

The peak whale viewing months are September, October, and November. 

Where can I see the whales from land viewing points?

  1. Cliff Path: The Cliff Path is a scenic walkway along the coastline, offering fantastic views of Walker Bay. There are designated whale-watching benches and lookout points along the path where you can stop to see the whales.
  2. Sievers Point: Sievers Point is a popular whale-watching spot located near the Old Harbour in Hermanus.
  3. Gearing’s Point: Gearing’s Point is another whale-watching location situated near the Old Harbour.
  4. Voëlklip Beach: Voëlklip Beach is a beautiful sandy beach in Hermanus that also offers good whale-watching opportunities.
  5. Fernkloof Nature Reserve: The Fernkloof Nature Reserve offers several hiking trails with stunning views of Walker Bay. While hiking in the reserve, keep a lookout for the whales in the bay below.
