Looking for the juiciest, freshest and most scrumptious fruit this summer? Then prepare to go fruit picking, it won’t get any better than picking it yourself. Your day will turn into a fun, earthy and delicious adventure. 

South Africa hosts a large variety of fruit picking experiences for you to enjoy. Halaal Travels has rounded up arguably the most comprehensive list of where you can pick your own fruit in South Africa.  

Where to pick fruit in the Western Cape:

1. Klondyke Cherry farm

Situated 30km from the town of Ceres in the Western Cape. Climb up ladders, or pick the cherries hanging on the low branches, the choice is yours, but the end result will be the same, the tastiest, juiciest cherries for you to devour. 2. Mooiberge Farm Stall

Located just outside Cape Town in Stellenbosch.

Where: Mooiberge Farm, R44, Annandale Rd, Stellenbosch, 7600

Attractions on site: Marvel at the large strawberries and see the life size colourful metal scarecrows.

3. Polkadraai Strawberry Farm

Where: Polkadraai Farm M12, Stellenbosch Arterial Road, Stellenbosch

When: September – January

Price: Prices available on their website.(Call before you go to find out about the crop this season)

Attractions on site: Tractor rides, Pony rides, Mini golf, Face painting, Arts and craft, Play Ground, Food Court. I am not sure if there are any halaal food options here in the Food Court.

4. Hoogwater Farm

Where: Only 110km out of Cape Town.

R43, Hoogwater Farm, Wolesely, Western Cape

When: 

Figs, Apples, Peaches and Pears: Between 13 January 2024 – 28 February 2024

The farm will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 08:00 till 13:00

5. Blueberry Bar SA 

Where: Klapmuts Simondium Road, Paarl

7. Redberry Farm

Where: Geelhoutboom Road (off the R404), Blanco, George, South Africa 

When: Monday – Saturday | 9am – 4pm

8. The Field Berry Farm

Where: De Deur, South Africa

When: 6 January – May 2024. Weekends only 9am – 3pm

Price: Adults R50, Pensioners/Kids R40. R140/kg for berries picked.

10. Bon Af Berry Farm

The Bon Af Berry Farm can be found on the Free State side if the Vaal River, near the town of Parys.  

Where: Getting there: Take the N1 west from JHB to the Sasolburg / Parys turn-off. Continue to Parys, turning right at the Barrage Intersection. The farm is a further 400m.

When: November-April

Where: The Blueberry Heights Farm is situated in the small village of Haenertsburg

Where: The Tangaroa Strawberry farm located in the North West province of South Africa. In the town of Hartbeespoort.

13. The Iconos Farm

Where: The Iconos farm is located in Upington situated in the Northern Cape.

14. Terebinte goose and berry farm

Where: The Terebinte Goose and Berry Farm is is situated just 23 kilometres from Graskop on the Bushbuckridge road.

15. Litchi Festival

Where: Old Fort Road Salt Rock. It is just 800m down the road from Sasol.
